THIS PROGRAM IS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ENGAGE IN THE VISUAL ARTS AND WANT TO TAKE THEIR WORK TO THE STAGE. AREAS OF STUDY AND POSSIBLE CONCENTRATION INCLUDE ⟶

Throughout this program they will develop a strong foundation in visual art partnered with experience in all areas of stage design. These students utilize their skills and interests to visually bring the stage to life with backgrounds, props, lighting, and costumes that they have designed from concept to stage.

Design and Production students will participate in a curriculum of interdisciplinary arts education, utilizing a project-based instructional approach. They will work collaboratively with dance, music, and theatre students on student-led/teacher-student co-directed creative works and productions.

VISUAL ART

Drawing, Painting, 3D, with a strong focus on storytelling and expression.

SET DESIGN

Create scenes and props for performances from the first concept sketches to building a model to constructing the set.

COSTUME DESIGN

In-depth work in preparing actors for the stage such as developing sewing skills, designing and fitting costumes, wig-making, and make-up art.

LIGHTING AND SOUND DESIGN

Develop the mood and tone of productions using color, texture, and sound effects. Coordinate lighting and sound with other elements of stage design such as costuming, props, and scenic design.

SCENIC PAINTING/SCULPTURE

Paint (or build) on a large scale for backdrop/set.
