ICON is seeking a Female Camp Counselor to join our Student Life Team to care for up to 12 teenage boarding student-artists that attend Iowa Conservatory’s summer intensives. If you love working with kids ages 12-18, this could be a great role for you!
This is a 4 week position, beginning on June 15th, 2025 and ending on July 12th, 2025.
Compensation and Housing:
- Single room residence hall as assigned
- $500 for 4 weeks, reimbursement for gas mileage when transporting campers

ICON Camp Counselor is responsible for:
- Supervising campers at all times outside of day camp hours, which are daily M-S from 9-5 PM, with two-week sessions including complete supervision of campers overnight Saturday, full day Sunday, and Sunday overnight.
- Checking in campers from the res hall on Sunday evenings beginning at 5 PM and checking out campers at the end of their sessions ending on Saturdays midday to late afternoon.
- Helping to plan and lead recreational activities, including 2-3 nights out for dinner during day camp evenings, day trips to a waterpark or to the movies, swimming, or other social activities on the weekend
- Light supervision and consistent presence in the residence hall in evenings and overnight, with bedroom checks nightly
- Helping build a positive and fun atmosphere, guiding and supporting students socializing with one another
- Routine health care/first aid
- Overseeing and guiding clean up of spaces when students have completed camp, utilizing a pre-established checklist
- Storing medication as needed in a secured space

- Stay informed of camper concerns, serve as an advocate, and report concerns to the Dean of Students in a timely manner.

- Mediate conflicts and assist with conflict resolution within the residence hall community
- Be knowledgeable of and follow Iowa Conservatory policies and procedures; help students to understand these policies and procedures.

Job Requirements:
- Have a dependable car with insurance and a driver’s license with clean record for driving students
- Successfully complete a criminal background check
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Maintain student confidentiality; review and understand student records
- Plan and execute student life events in partnership with Student Life Team members to build a fun and safe social atmosphere for ICON students
- Connect with students of concern, follow-up on issues with Dean of Students
Prior/Current Experience:
- Working in helping fields/experience with adolescents:
- Bachelor’s degree in mental health, counseling, social work, nursing, education or related field and/or
- Pursuing graduate degree in above areas and/or
- Camp counseling experience and/or
- Practicum or internship experience in child-care/teenage programming and/or
- Other specialized experience working with kids ages 12-19
- Crisis management training/experience
- Leadership training/experience
