Jyni Ekins serves as the Director of Admissions & Engagement for ICON, where she enjoys building relationships with prospective students and families as they explore choosing ICON as part of their educational and artistic journey. With a background spanning education, communications, journalism and nonprofit leadership, Jyni is passionate about helping young people discover environments where they can pursue what inspires them both artistically and academically.
Jyni earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Hunter College. Prior to joining ICON, she spent more than 17 years at The Diller-Quaile School of Music in New York City, where she held roles in development, early childhood education, finance and enrollment management.
A recipient of the Clifford-Levy Creativity Grant, Jyni traveled to rural South Africa to both teach and study musical traditions, as well as collaborate with a non-profit on literacy initiatives and historical research. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, writing, playing ukulele, acting, and spending time with her husband, daughter and dog. Jyni believes every student has a story worth discovering and considers it a privilege to help students find a place where they can grow, create and belong.
