Biography

Camila is a Colombian educator and researcher who holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from The University of Iowa. For five years, she taught Spanish language courses at various levels, as well as classes on Hispanic literature and culture at the same institution. She is also a historian and earned a master’s degree in Art History.

Her primary research focus is Latin American Comics Studies; an interdisciplinary field she continuously incorporates into the classroom to foster student engagement and enrich the learning process. During her time at The University of Iowa, her work was recognized with several honors, including the Judith Liskin-Gasparro Outstanding Spanish TA Award (Spanish and Portuguese Department), the Post-Comprehensive Research Fellowship (Graduate College), the T. Anne Cleary International Dissertation Research Fellowship (Graduate College), and the Academics Award (International Programs).
