Heather Young

Heather Young earned her BA in Education from the University of Iowa, with endorsements in Science and Social Studies, and completed graduate work at Northwestern College. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience across private and public schools, from elementary through high school, with a focus on social sciences and science.
At ICON, Heather teaches Social Studies/Sciences(Global Studies) for Middle School and High School(U.S. History, Government, World History). She creates inclusive, student-centered classrooms that spark curiosity, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion. In addition to classroom teaching, she has served as Executive Director of Girls on the Run Eastern Iowa and held other educational leadership roles in school districts, collaborating with colleagues and community partners to support student growth and well-being.
Outside of school, Heather enjoys spending time with her family, running, and traveling.
