Biography

Kristen Olinger teaches design and technical theatre classes and oversees all of the Design and Production Majors. She has been teaching at ICON since it first opened its doors in 2023. She has her MFA from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in Lighting and Projection Design. With over 20 years experience as a professional lighting and video/multimedia designer she still works professionally all over the country. Some of her most recent projects include taking a new play by Rob Bell to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Christmas with Wartburg as seen on PBS, and working with the Tampa Bay Opera on their production of Macbeth. She is very active in The United States Institute of Theatre Technology serving three years as the main stage lighting designer and two years as Secondary Education Liaison for the Education Commission. When she isn’t busy grading student work or making fun digital art in After Effects, she can be found spending time with her family and two goofy Irish Doodles.
