Biography

Kyle Sydney Powell has 25 years of experience designing, implementing, and teaching visual art programs to students of all ages in the classroom, workshops, and museum education programs throughout the country. She has an MFA with honors, in Drawing, from the New York Academy of Art, and a BA in studio art from the University of Puget Sound.

Kyle is in her third year as Director of Visual Arts at Nolte Academy. As an instructor she emphasizes a strong foundation in visual art fundamentals and provides students with individually catered techniques and support to inspire confidence to explore art while expressing themselves. At Nolte, Kyle has strived to support visual arts integration into all of Nolte’s programs, and has been the visual artist/illustrator of many of Nolte Academy’s productions.

Kyle is a practicing fine artist currently working in the mediums of photography, drawing, and mixed-media. Nature, and our relationship to it, is a recurring theme in her work. Since moving to Cedar Rapids in 2017, she has exhibited her work throughout Iowa, including a group show at The Cedar Rapids Art Museum. She has published two books, Maezie’s Pumpkin Patch – an illustrated children’s book, and You Are Loved – a photography gift book.

In her free time Kyle can be found outside among the trees, water, and sand with a camera or pencil in hand. She loves to camp, travel, ski in the winter, and paddle board in the summer.
