Meg Tisinger

Meg Tisinger is excited to return to ICON for her second year as 6–12 English Language Arts teacher and school librarian. Now in her 13th year in education, she has served in a variety of instructional and student-support roles within the Iowa City Community School District. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Iowa and a Master’s degree in School Library Studies from the University of Northern Iowa. A 2023 Iowa Library Association Scholarship recipient, she has also received leadership honors from Scouting America and the American Diabetes Association.

Her teaching is grounded in curiosity, connection, and exploration, while empowering students to connect their learning to authentic experiences. She encourages students to develop and exceed their language and literacy skills to gain confidence in questioning, interpreting, and evaluating the world around them — including how to identify and evaluate credible information in an increasingly digital world. Above all, she works to create a community-centered space where students feel valued and are free to explore and apply their creative interests to English/Language Arts.

Outside of school, Meg is a pop culture enthusiast who enjoys spending time outdoors, connecting with family and friends, and pursuing a variety of creative projects, including music and writing. Her poetry has been published by Pretty Owl Press, Degenerate Literature, and Earthwords.
