Biography

Todd Rhoades received his B.F.A. in Dance from Point Park University (Pittsburgh) and also trained at Boston Ballet School, Joffrey Ballet School and The Taylor School. Todd began his professional career with Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra/Pittsburgh Pops dancing under the musical direction of Marvin Hamlisch. He then went on as a guest artist for Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Todd danced soloist roles at Ballet Austin where he was a company member for four years before relocating to Chicago. In Chicago, he was a soloist at Luna Negra Dance Theatre, under the direction of Eduardo Vilaro and a guest artist with The Seldoms, Danzsloop Chicago and Ron de Jesus Dance. Within the Chicago dance community, Todd volunteered his skills dancing for charitable performances of Dance For Life and Chicago Takes Off.

Expanding concert dance into other realms, Todd danced as a Principal Dancer for the Lyric Opera of Chicago for 17 years as well as dancing for productions with Chicago Opera Theater. In theatrical productions, he performed many roles onstage at The MUNY (St. Louis, MO), The Goodman (Chicago, IL), The Paramount Theater (Aurora, IL), Marriott Theater (Lincolnshire, IL), Drury Lane Theater (Oakbrook, IL), Music Theater Works (Wilmette, IL), Tennessee Williams Festival (Provincetown, MA), and a Kenny Roger’s Christmas Musical tour of The Toy Shoppe with Alan Thicke.

As a choreographer, Todd has choreographed for theater/musical theater: Paramount Theatre (Aurora, IL), Lifeline Theatre (Chicago, IL), Little Theater on the Square (Sullivan, IL), Light Opera Works (Chicago, IL), DePaul University – Theatre School (Chicago, IL), University of Michigan – School of Music, Theatre & Dance; opera/operetta: New Orleans Opera (with New Orleans Ballet), Des Moines Metro Opera, Finger Lakes Opera (with New York State Ballet), Chicago Folks Operetta, The Savoyaires, North Park University – Opera School; dance companies: Inaside Jazz Dance Chicago, Nomi Lamad Dance, and Project Bound Dance. He also has assisted directors and been the Movement Consultant for various productions.

Todd also teaches master classes in dance, pilates, yoga, alignment-based movement and injury prevention. In the world of dance, he has been found on faculty at Ballet Austin Academy (Summer Intensive/Academic Year), Inaside Jazz Dance (Summer Intensive), Inaside Jazz Dance Guest Teacher Company Class, Thodos Dance Chicago Guest Teacher Company Class, Chicago Ballet Arts, Chicago School of the Arts, and the Youth Ballet at the University of Iowa. For movement-based, pilates and yoga, Todd teaches across the country in spas, private studios, wellness centers, rehab centers and fitness centers. He was the supervisor and event director of the yoga/tai chi program at Galter LifeCenter – Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he developed programs for oncology and cardiac rehabilitation. Todd was also the Pilates and yoga instructor, assisting in rehabilitation, for Cirque du Soleil’s cast of Luzia, while they were stationed in Chicago.

Todd is currently pursuing his MFA in Dance at the University of Iowa, having received his BFA Dance from Point Park University. He is an active member in COGS (graduate union) as well as Actors Equity Association (AEA), Stage Directors and Choreographers Union (SDC) and American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA).
