Summer Intensives offer immersive programs for students ready to level up in dance, musical theatre, acting, songwriting, and visual arts.

ICON welcomes local and boarding students to explore creativity alongside exceptional faculty and visiting artists.

Musical Theatre

ICON’s musical theatre intensive workshop offers programming for all levels! Students take part in daily singing, acting, and dance classes to work on foundational and technical work, including professional level skill practice. Within this workshop, ICON includes exceptional masterclasses with special guests artists from Broadway and beyond. Afternoons are spent putting our training to use in rehearsals for a final showcase, which will feature all participants.

The Open Doors Dance Festival, designed for dancers in grades 5–12, develops versatile artists prepared for today’s evolving dance landscape. Students receive rigorous classical training while also exploring contemporary and jazz techniques relevant to stage, video, film, and live performance. Through study of renowned choreographers’ styles, creative process, and original choreography, dancers build both technical proficiency and a meaningful artistic portfolio. Guided by distinguished faculty and industry professionals, students strengthen technique, musicality, and improvisation while gaining mentorship and connections that support pathways into pre-professional and professional programs nationwide.

2-Week Session: DRAWING AND PAINTING
JULY 19-Aug 1
Ages 14+
For those interested in visual art, this is an opportunity to seriously dive into your passion and spend your days in the studio. Learn techniques and fundamentals in the mornings, and spend your afternoons learning about expression and artistic choices in the medium and subject matter of your choice. At the end of the sessions, students will present their work in an art show for family and friends.

Summer Intensives Fees

  • Tuition: $850 2 week session; $450 1 week session
  • Housing: $175 / week; $350 2 week session
  • Fieldtrip Fee: $225 (can opt in)
  • Registration Fee: $50

50% deposit is required to save spot; remaining balance due May 15, 2026.

Summer Living at ICON

Students participating in our Summer Intensives are able to live in our apartment-style dorms right across the street from ICON. Living in the dorms allows students to get the full Iowa Conservatory experience. Between evening programming to explore Iowa City and dorm life surrounded by like-minded student artists, we create a summer experience that extends far beyond the classroom.
