January was a month of creativity, exploration, and hands-on learning at ICON! From the dynamic movement of kinetic sculptures to the thoughtful lighting choices in dance, our students have been pushing artistic boundaries in every discipline.
We welcomed prospective students during a successful visit day, watched the Visual Art Exploration class bring motion to their work with Calder-inspired mobiles, and saw our costume designers bring A Year with Frog and Toad to life.
Take a look back at the highlights from an inspiring start to 2025!
Movement to Art
In Visual Art Exploration, a Visual Art major created a kinetic art mobile inspired by Alexander Calder. Through careful balance, movement, and design, they explored how art can interact with space and motion. This hands-on project brought Calder’s innovative spirit to life, challenging students to think beyond static forms and embrace the dynamic possibilities of sculpture.
Visit Day Success!
Thank you to all the amazing students and families who joined us for our January Visit Day! Your energy and creativity inspire us every step of the way. We can’t wait to welcome even more future arts at our next Visit Day on February 21st!
Bringing Frog and Toad to Life Through Costume Design
ICON students have been hard at work behind the scenes, designing and creating costumes for A Year with Frog and Toad. This hands-on process has given them the opportunity to explore costume design, problem-solve creatively, and contribute their artistry to a production.
Lighting for Dance Explores Color Theory in Action
Students in Lighting for Dance explored color theory in a hands-on way by sorting candy under different colored lights. With each change in lighting, they had to reorganize their piles, discovering how color perception shifts based on illumination. They also experimented with how to light a dancer in a color that complements their costume while maintaining a background hue that enhances the mood of a performance.
